The important component of a brake system is the brake fluid. For a proper functioning of the brake system and for a long life of the brakes the brake fluids are required. The brake fluid is generally a mixture of castor oil and alcohol. A good brake fluid must not get frozen and should not corrode the parts with which it makes a contact. To have a smooth operation of the vehicle the brake fluids must be designed in such a way that it doesn’t get affected by the changing environment conditions. The types of hydraulic brake fluids are DOT3, 4, 5. These DOT fluids are recommended for anti brake systems. For a particular vehicle only it’s approved brake fluids has to be used, any other fluid used in the place of brake fluid will cause serious damage to the brake system. There is usually an indicator which indicates the level of brake fluid and when ever the level goes down the top of the brake fluid has to be performed. During top up of the fluid care has to be taken such that the fluid doesn’t come in contact with the skin or eyes as they are extremely toxic to the humans.
